Polyester fabric is one of the most preferred materials in today’s textile world. It is not a natural fabric but rather a factory-produced one. It was first invented in 1940 in England. It gained popularity in the 1970s through an advertisement claiming, “It can look stylish for 68 days without ironing.” For instance, many outfits from the nightlife scene (or disco life, as we might call it) were made from polyester fabric because, despite all the activity, they still looked as if they had just been ironed.

The full term for polyester is “synthetic polymer.” It is made from petroleum products and is essentially a type of plastic.

Fabrics made from polyester thread can be used in clothing production or upholstery work. They are often blended with natural threads. If you check the labels on many clothes you buy, you’ll see phrases like “70% cotton, 30% polyester.” Polyester fabric is structurally wrinkle-resistant and flexible, which is why it is mixed with natural fabrics to reduce wrinkling and increase elasticity.

Why choose polyester fabric? We can list many reasons: It is shiny, durable, flexible, smooth, and lightweight. It dries quickly, rarely requires ironing, and doesn’t wrinkle. The shape given with ironing is preserved for a long time. It has a soft and silky touch, is easy to care for, and can be machine-washed at home. Dry cleaning is unnecessary, which is very important. Its stain-resistant nature ensures it does not absorb stains, and its color doesn’t fade with washing. It also doesn’t show signs of wear from use. For example, people often complain about knee marks on pants or pajamas—polyester doesn’t have this issue. It is resistant to moths and other harmful insects, as well as mold and fungi.
